History of Shared Ownership
Also known as fractional ownership overseas
Shared Ownership is commonly known as fractional ownership overseas.
- It started in the early 90's in exclusive ski fields of the US which prior to fractional ownership were typically categorised as being unusually expensive with supply being limited.
- Shared ownership also occurs in several other industries, most notably with private jets, luxury yachts and super cars.
- The shared ownership product has now found market acceptance around the globe including Europe, South Africa and more recently Asia.
More details on the overseas experience are included in news.
In Australia, sharing ownership has been common in real estate with many properties owned by tenants in common and co owned leisure boats.
